Background:
In response to the 1999 school shooting in Taber, Alberta the
Canadian Threat Assessment Training Board received funding from the
Alberta Solicitor General Community Crime Prevention Program,
Government of Canada Canadian Firearms Centre, and the Federal
Justice Department National Crime Prevention Centre, to develop and
pilot a student threat assessment training program for schools and
their associated professionals. The pilot project experienced
tremendous success and the training is now being offered to all

Two Day Level I Training
|
|
This is a comprehensive skill-based workshop
structured for those professionals in the school and community system
(school principals, police, student services coordinators,
therapists, etc.) who are, or will be, conducting the actual
threat/risk assessments. Real case studies are a key part of this
training as participants have the opportunity to conduct assessments,
through small group processing of the data, prior to being informed

Two Day Level II Training

Two Day Level II Training - Referred to as
"Clinical Interviewing in Threat Assessment", this two day
training focuses on strategic interviewing of key individuals in the
threat assessment process: threat maker(s), target(s), collaterals,
reporter(s), parents/caregivers. A more comprehensive look at types
of high-risk youth is presented. Skill development using case
studies, role-playing and skill demonstration using live teenage
